This rangefinder is a great option for any of you out there who are looking to purchase one at a low cost. The XL450 can be bought for around $90 and is one the most popular and widely sought-after models Halo has developed.

With the purchase of this product, you acquire a rangefinder that has the ability to produce accurate readings on targets up to 450 yards away. For those of you who like to work with meters rather than yards, this product allows you to switch between the two.

PROS

  • Very affordable price tag
  • Great ratings and customer reviews
  • Designed to fit perfectly in your hand

Cons

  • Often, you get what you pay for, and with a low price tag, the customer should proceed with caution

Halo Rangefinders Buyer’s Guide

After all that, I’m sure there are some questions that arise as to what the best choice is. Some of you may be wondering if your choice would come with a weather resistant case. Others may be wondering which ones come with Halo’s scanning technology.

After looking over the products, you may begin to wonder which ones were made while considering how they would feel in your hand. The rest of you may want to purchase a rangefinder that will produce extremely quick results with the simple push of a button.

I hope to assist you in weaving through some of these potential questions and more. Simply put, all of Halo’s products include a weather-resistant case, a scan mode, lightning-fast results, AI technology, and a comfortable design to fit your hand.

Along with all of these features added into each of these products, Halo has built their rangefinders with second priority mode. Finding a good rangefinder that is built with second priority mode is essential for all of you hunters, archers, and surveyors out there.

Second priority mode will allow you to pick up on targets that are obscured in the distance. Often various targets for hunters, archers, and surveyors are covered or obscured by things like brush or tree limbs.

A rangefinder built with first priority mode would give you readings on the limbs or the brush because they are in the front. However, that just won’t do in the field, and you need a device that looks beyond the first thing that pops up in the reticles to what you are actually aiming at.

All of Halo’s rangefinders are built in this way and will pick up distances for what you are truly aiming at.

So the question then arises, what’s the difference? They all seem to have a lot of similar qualities about them, but at what points can I distinguish between them?

In large part, the differences lie in the area of distance reading capabilities. As I noted, some read distances of up to 1000 or 1500 yards. Others were seen to read distances of only 300 yards. Knowing what you will be doing and being real about what you will need to get a proper read on is important.

For many of us, knowing something is 1500 yards away may not do us any good apart from it satisfying our curiosity. Most rifles will not allow you to shoot that far, and I would imagine touching on what an archer is capable of doing is unnecessary.

However, there are some rifles out there that specialize in long range, and for the surveyor, this could also prove to be a good fit.

For beginners and those operating in short range scenarios, finding a rangefinder that has minimal distance capabilities could save you money and also be easier to use. As a result, this could be the best option for you.

Final Thoughts

I like the idea of getting a proper read on a target that I’ll actually be able to hit. As a result, paying an added amount for increased distance capabilities doesn’t suit me. Therefore my choice is the Halo XR700-8 for its mid-range capabilities.

A number of rifles can reach beyond the capabilities of the shorter range rangefinders, while many won’t work at 1500 or even 1000 yards. The Halo XR700-8 comes with all the benefits of the other Halo products, such as AI technology, a weather-resistant case, and scan mode.

This rangefinder is obviously the best well rounded option of the five. If you want an all-around great universal rangefinder, the Halo XR700-8(paid link) is a great choice.
